Set within the protected beauty of the Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, The Nautilus Maldives invites guests to reconnect with the ocean through the return of its Ocean Discovery Week, taking place from 2 to 8 August 2026.
More than a programme, this thoughtfully curated experience unfolds as a fluid journey—where exploration, artistry, and quiet moments of connection come together in a way that feels both personal and profound.
A Family-Led Perspective on Ocean Exploration
At the heart of this year’s edition is renowned underwater photographer Tobias Friedrich, joined by his wife Isidora and their two sons. Together, they bring a rare dynamic—blending expertise with a deeply human, family-led perspective on the underwater world.
Tobias, known for his award-winning imagery and role within the global underwater photography community, leads guests through the art of capturing the ocean’s most extraordinary moments.
Alongside him, Isidora offers a narrative-driven approach, connecting exploration with conservation and storytelling, while their children introduce a fresh, next-generation curiosity that shapes the experience into something immersive across all ages.

A Week Shaped by the Ocean’s Rhythm
Ocean Discovery Week unfolds without rigid structure, allowing each experience to follow the natural rhythm of the sea. Guests may find themselves swimming alongside manta rays in the iconic waters of Hanifaru Bay, exploring vibrant reefs on guided snorkelling excursions, or venturing into the depths on night dives.
Photography sessions led by Tobias offer both creative and technical insight—from introductory poolside sessions to more advanced underwater composition techniques—encouraging guests to view the ocean through a more thoughtful lens. Evenings transition into shared moments, with open-air cinema screenings and conversations that reveal the unseen beauty of marine life.
At Naiboli, the Ocean Gallery presents a curated collection of Tobias’s work, with select pieces available and proceeds contributing to marine conservation efforts—reinforcing the deeper purpose behind the experience.

Inspiring the Next Generation
For younger guests, the experience unfolds through Young Wonderers, where curiosity leads exploration. From coral planting alongside the resident marine biologist to ocean-inspired art and storytelling, children are invited to form their own connection with the sea—one shaped by wonder, creativity, and understanding.

Ocean, Connection, and Discovery
What sets Ocean Discovery Week apart is its quiet intentionality. This is not a scheduled programme, but an evolving experience—one that reflects The Nautilus’ philosophy of unscripted luxury.
