Velana International Airport has unveiled a new passenger rest and service area at Terminal 1, further enhancing the departure experience for travellers.
Developed by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), the new first-floor facility combines additional seating, family-friendly amenities and banking services in one dedicated space.
750 Square Metres of Additional Passenger Space
The new facility adds approximately 750 square metres of passenger seating, offering a variety of seating arrangements designed to improve comfort and ease congestion during busy departure periods.
The expansion is part of MACL’s ongoing efforts to upgrade passenger facilities at the Maldives’ main international gateway.

A Family-Friendly Addition to Terminal 1
Families travelling through Velana International Airport can now make use of a dedicated 136-square-metre children’s play area.
The space features multi-level play structures, woven mesh tunnels, rope and ring climbing elements, and a ball pit, providing younger travellers with a safe and engaging environment before their flight.
Banking Services Now Available Before Departure
The new passenger area also includes a Bank of Maldives service point, where travellers can access foreign exchange services and US dollar issuance. The addition offers greater convenience for Maldivian travellers preparing for international departures.
