For years, Aman has been one of the few iconic luxury hospitality brands without a presence in the Maldives. That is set to change with the arrival of Aman Maldives, the brand’s first resort in the archipelago.
Located in the remote Vaavu Atoll, the resort will combine an intimate Aman hotel with a limited collection of branded residences designed by Kerry Hill Architects. Construction is underway, while the official opening date has yet to be announced.
Aman Maldives Location: A Private Sanctuary in Vaavu Atoll
Aman Maldives is being developed on a secluded private atoll in Vaavu Atoll, one of the Maldives’ least developed regions and an area renowned for exceptional diving, healthy coral reefs and a strong sense of remoteness.
Positioned at the eastern edge of the Maldives, the resort is designed to maximise uninterrupted sunrise views across the Indian Ocean. Rather than a single island, the retreat will span several lush islets linked by elegant wooden walkways, creating an environment where ocean, lagoon and tropical vegetation naturally flow together.
The architecture takes direct inspiration from the surrounding landscape. Using natural materials, open-air spaces and minimalist forms, Kerry Hill Architects continue the design language that has shaped some of Aman’s most iconic properties around the world.
Villas, Residences and Wellness at Aman Maldives
Aman Maldives will feature 52 standalone pavilions, ranging from one to three bedrooms, each with a private pool. Some will be located on the main island, while others will occupy quieter extensions for greater privacy.
The resort will also introduce 16 Aman Residences, each set on its own private islet with a white-sand beach, a 25-metre swimming pool, personal jetty, and seamless access to the resort’s facilities while maintaining complete seclusion.
Wellness will be centred around a dedicated 2,638-square-metre spa island, home to two signature Aman Spa Houses and a range of holistic treatments. Guests will also enjoy several restaurants, a beach club, private dining experiences, a dive centre and watersports, showcasing the exceptional marine life of Vaavu Atoll.
Aman Maldives Opening Date
Aman Maldives represents the brand’s 21st destination worldwide and one of its most anticipated future openings. While construction is progressing, Aman has not yet confirmed an official opening date, with the company currently listing the project simply as “Opening Soon.” Industry sources expect the resort to debut once construction is complete, but no launch timeline has been formally announced.
What is already clear is that Aman is bringing its distinctive approach to the Maldives rather than following the traditional resort model. With a deliberately limited number of accommodations, private-islet residences, architecture by Kerry Hill Architects and an emphasis on tranquillity, Aman Maldives is positioned to become one of the country’s most exclusive luxury retreats.
