Aman has officially revealed the name of its highly anticipated first resort in the Maldives. Amanolu is set to open in Vaavu Atoll in 2028, introducing the brand’s distinctive approach to privacy, architecture and understated luxury to the Maldivian archipelago.
Previously announced as Aman Maldives, the project now enters its next chapter with a confirmed name, opening year and further details of what will become one of the Maldives’ most anticipated new resorts.
Amanolu: Aman’s First Destination in the Maldives
Set among the pristine islands of Vaavu Atoll, Amanolu will comprise an intimate 52-key resort, complemented by dedicated islands for wellness and recreation.
The name itself reflects the philosophy behind the destination. Aman, meaning “peace” in Sanskrit, is paired with Olu, inspired by the water lily — a symbol associated with serenity, renewal and a connection to nature.
Surrounded by white coral beaches, clear lagoons and the expansive seascape of Vaavu Atoll, the resort is being conceived around the sense of space and seclusion for which Aman has become known worldwide.

The architecture of Amanolu Maldives is being led by longtime Aman collaborator Kerry Hill Architects (KHA), the studio behind a number of the brand’s most recognisable destinations.
At Amanolu, the architecture will respond directly to the geography of the Maldives. Restrained forms, open spaces and a close relationship between indoor and outdoor living are intended to allow the surrounding landscape and Indian Ocean to remain central to the experience.
Rather than concentrating every element on a single island, Amanolu will extend across its setting, with separate islands dedicated to wellness and recreation — creating distinct spaces within the wider resort experience.
Aman Residences, Amanolu
Alongside the resort, Amanolu will introduce 16 Aman-branded residences, according to details released with the announcement. Each residence will occupy its own private island, taking the concept of privacy in the Maldives considerably further.
The five-bedroom residences will feature expansive indoor and outdoor living spaces, a 25-metre swimming pool, dedicated staff accommodation and a personal berth.
Their positioning will also make the surrounding landscape an integral part of the design. Some residences will be oriented towards sunrise or sunset, while select islands will offer views extending across both sides of the island.
Residence owners will have access to Amanolu’s dining, wellness and recreational facilities while retaining the independence of a private-island home.
When Will Amanolu Maldives Open?
Amanolu Maldives is scheduled to open in 2028. Aman has not yet announced a specific opening date.
The confirmation brings greater clarity to a project first introduced simply as Aman’s forthcoming Maldives destination. With its official name now revealed, Amanolu will mark the brand’s first presence in the country and bring together a 52-key resort, private-island residences and dedicated wellness and recreation spaces in Vaavu Atoll.
Further details about the resort’s accommodation, restaurants, wellness experiences and opening timeline are expected to be revealed as Amanolu moves closer to its 2028 debut.
