Nobu Hospitality has officially confirmed its debut in the Maldives with the announcement of Nobu Hotel, Residences, and Restaurant Maldives, set to be developed on the private island of Munyafushi in Laamu Atoll.
Scheduled to debut in 2028, the project marks the brand’s first entry into the Maldivian market and signals a significant expansion of its global luxury portfolio.
A Strategic Partnership in the Indian Ocean

The development is being undertaken in partnership with Sarat International, led by Managing Director Ali Ahsan.
As part of the project’s strategic framework, Sarat International has appointed Engr. Abdulaziz Bin Mohammed Alkhudair as Chief Advisor, reinforcing its leadership presence in the Maldives.
The collaboration brings Nobu’s internationally recognised lifestyle concept to one of the Indian Ocean’s most exclusive destinations — blending contemporary minimalism, culinary distinction, and a strong sense of place.
A Curated Collection of Villas and Private Island Estates
The resort will comprise a total of 56 villas, designed in line with Nobu’s established aesthetic — clean architectural lines, natural materials, and a restrained colour palette that complements the surrounding seascape.
The accommodation offering includes:
- 26 one- and two-bedroom beach villas, positioned along the island’s white-sand shoreline
- 30 one- and two-bedroom overwater villas, suspended above the lagoon
- 10 Nobu Island Estate Residences, each occupying its own private island and featuring private beachfront, direct ocean access, and a dedicated yacht providing seamless connection to the main resort

Culinary Identity at the Core

A defining feature of the project will be the Nobu Restaurant Maldives, bringing Chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s signature Japanese-Peruvian cuisine to Laamu Atoll. The restaurant is expected to serve as a central gathering point within the development, reinforcing the brand’s culinary-led identity.
The resort will also incorporate a range of lifestyle and leisure facilities, including a spa, fitness centre, diving centre, tennis courts, social event venues, and a central swimming pool integrated into the island’s landscape.
Expanding the Nobu Global Footprint
With a planned 2028 debut, Nobu Hospitality’s expansion into the Maldives represents a notable milestone as the brand continues to grow its international presence across hotels, residences, and destination dining concepts.
Set within the relative seclusion of Laamu Atoll, Nobu Hotel, Residences, and Restaurant Maldives introduces a contemporary interpretation of island luxury — defined by architectural clarity, culinary excellence, and privacy at scale.
