This October, art meets the natural beauty of Baa Atoll as The Nautilus Maldives welcomes acclaimed British painter Phoebe Dickinson for “Portraits from a Living Postcard,” an intimate Artist in Residence programme taking place from 18 to 21 October 2026.

Part of the resort’s Masters for Masters creative calendar, the four-day residency will see Dickinson draw inspiration from the colours, landscapes and changing light of the Maldives while creating an original collection on the island. Guests will also have opportunities to step inside her creative process and create works of their own.

Meet the Artist: Phoebe Dickinson

Known for her portraits, landscapes and still lifes, Phoebe Dickinson has exhibited internationally, including solo exhibitions in London and New York and appearances at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters Annual Exhibition. Her accolades include the RP Award from the Royal Society of Portrait Painters in 2021 and a Certificate of Excellence from the Portrait Society of America in 2022.

Her paintings can be found in collections including Houghton Hall, Daylesford House, Belvoir Castle and Blenheim Palace. At The Nautilus, her surroundings will shift from Britain’s historic houses and landscapes to the tropical palette of Baa Atoll, with the island itself becoming both studio and subject.

Rather than presenting art only once it is complete, the residency invites guests to experience the process behind it. During Open Artist Studio sessions, guests will be able to watch Dickinson painting live, hear about the observations and ideas shaping each piece, and engage with the artist as her Maldives-inspired collection gradually comes together.

The experience reflects the philosophy behind The Nautilus’ Masters for Masters series, which brings recognised figures from different creative and cultural disciplines to the island and gives guests the opportunity to experience their craft in an intimate setting.

Paint Your Own Postcard from the Maldives

Guests will have an opportunity to pick up a brush themselves during a sunset landscape painting experience led by Dickinson. Inspired by the softer evening light and colours of the island, the session invites participants to translate their own view of The Nautilus onto canvas.

Designed as a relaxed creative experience rather than a formal art lesson, it is open to different levels of experience and offers guests something particularly personal to take home: their own painted memory of the Maldives.

The Nautilus Collection Takes Shape

Throughout the four-day residency, Dickinson will work on her own series inspired by The Nautilus while guests create alongside her. The programme will culminate in a guest artwork showcase and the official unveiling of Phoebe Dickinson’s Nautilus Collection, bringing the different perspectives created during her time in Baa Atoll together.

Taking place from 18 to 21 October 2026, “Portraits from a Living Postcard” adds another creative dimension to a stay at The Nautilus — transforming the island’s landscapes, colours and fleeting moments into works that will remain long after the residency comes to an end.
